Just when you thought tights might actually go away…

Published by carolydia at 12:14 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Every time you go outside, most likely you see a bevy of young and older women wearing some form of tights or leggings. Found in a rainbow of every color and print imaginable, this garment, once just a type of lingerie or part of a fitness buff’s wardrobe, has dominated as a staple in many closets, maybe even your own. They’ve served their purpose under dresses and long tunics, and used as a lighter, sleeker replacement for the skinny jean. Available in every price point, tights have heavily saturated the women’s apparel market. But just as you thought they were on their way to becoming yesterday’s forgotten trend at lighting speed (I mean, how many varieties of the same thing could you possibly have?), tights have experienced another evolution. Thanks to the unconventional design duo Libertine, made of Johnson Hartig and Cindy Green, some trend setters determined to push those tights to the back of their dressers have pulled them back on with avengence. Libertine’s Fall 2009 Fashion Week runway show featured their signature graffiti and stencil aesthetic heavily splashed over everything from bolero jackets to sack dresses. This show has inspired some crafty fashionistas to replicate the look in a recession friendly way: DIY. Of course, those who wish to be both edgy and stylish in a more subtle way, have taken this look to their tights. Leading indie fashion mag Nylon has recently published a great article of how exactly to make the Libertine look your own and spice up those boring tights. For the 411, check it out here
